THE
SECRET TO BUYING GOLD JEWELRY
Always, always, always ask, demand and insist to know the actual weight
& purity of the gold.
Here are the facts:
If you see a lovely 14k Gold Bracelet, usually it will be slightly
hollowed or curved on the inside and perhaps reinforced on the ends
to make it stronger. This is usually done because a very lightweight
gauge (thickness) of Gold is used to lower the manufacturing costs
while still providing a beautiful object. After determining the price,
ask the seller for the actual weight.
REPEAT; ALWAYS ASK HOW MUCH IT WEIGHS!
All precious metals, by law, are weighed in Troy weight.
Troy ounce
“A troy ounce is 480 grains, somewhat heavier than an avoirdupois
ounce (437.5 grains). A grain is exactly 64.798 91 mg; hence one troy
ounce is exactly 31.1034768 grams, about 10 percent more than the
avoirdupois ounce, which is exactly 28.349523125 grams. A gram is
a gram in both systems. The troy ounce is the only ounce used in the
pricing of precious metals, such as gold, platinum, and silver. Occasionally,
Jewelers will use “pennyweight” as a method of weighing
gold. Pennyweight, abbreviated DWT, is also a method of Troy weight,
there being 20 Dwt. To a Troy Ounce.
In troy weight, there are 12 ounces in a pound, rather than 16 as
in the more common avoirdupois system. The troy ounce may be abbreviated
to oz t. In the normal pound that is used now in the United States,
there are 14.58 troy ounces.”
Back to the Jewelry Seller;
If they are asking $400. for the bracelet and it weighs 1/3 of an
ounce troy (10.367 grams), then multiply the price times 3 or $1200.
Per ounce. If it weighs 1/4 ounce (7.775 grams), then multiply $400.
X 4 and that is the price you are paying for the 14K Gold, $1600.
per ounce.
That’s right $1,600. per ounce. OUCH!
OUR HANDMADE BULLION BRACELETS ALWAYS WEIGH
ONE TROY OUNCE EACH AND WE ALWAYS SELL THEM FOR THE SAME AMOUNT AS
THE N.Y SPOT PRICE OF GOLD.
PURITY;
As we have mentioned elsewhere, pure Gold is .999 fine. It is as pure
a gold as it is commercially possible to refine. This could also be
called 24 Karat Gold. Except for very delicate items, (as in lightweight
earrings), pure (24Karat) Gold is too soft for most Jewelry, especially
Jewelry that is worn on the wrist and subject to the daily wear and
tear of life. However, 14K Gold (.585 % pure) has been refined to
be EXACTLY the right hardness for this daily wear and still have the
incredible rich color, long life and properties of Gold that we all
love and respect. It is the perfect metal for wearing and for Jewelry.
While many dealers sell 10K Gold (41.67 % pure gold), we feel that
the percentage of gold is not high enough to meet the requirements
of Bullion Jewelry. If you are comparing 10K & 14K, the lower
Gold content of 10K must also be considered and factored into your
buying equation.
N.Y. Spot Price;
This is the fluctuating price that is determined by the supply and
demand in the N.Y. (and world) market. It is for .999 (24K) Pure Gold,
that is sold in 5000 ounce lots to volume buyers in the free market.
It is always sold in ingot form. It fluctuates hourly. (Check
our home page for the current N.Y. Spot Gold Price). This is
the price that large, national refineries pay for their Gold, before
they alloy it down to 14K and then convert it into a form that Jewelers,
Manufacturers and Goldsmiths (Like Us) can use to create Jewelry.
They sell this refined Gold wholesale, at a price slightly above the
N.Y. Spot Price.
While the difference between pure (.999) and 14K (.585) is a fairly
small one, we have been able to purchase, produce and sell a One Ounce,
Solid, 14K Gold Bracelet, AT THE SAME PRICE AS CHARGED FOR NON ALLOYED
.999 IN 5000 OUNCE LOTS . When you actually compare weight and purity,
with what many Jewelers, Jewelry Stores & Goldsmiths sell, YOU
WILL BE ASTOUNDED AT THIS LOW PRICE & WONDERFUL VALUE.

“HONEST VALUE NEVER FAILS”
The Relationship Between Gold Weight and The Price of Jewelry.
WE BELIEVE THAT BULLION BRACELETS™ HAVE ONE OF THE HIGHEST
RATIO'S OF GOLD TO SELLING PRICE , OF ANY JEWELRY, AVAILABLE IN THE
COMMERCIAL WORLD.
As an example, if the actual gold content (based on its purity, weight
and the spot gold market) of a piece of jewelry is $10. and it sells
for $100., then that is a 10% ratio. This is not an unusual ratio
of gold to selling price, which you will find out if you comparative
shop.
HOWEVER, a 14K Bullion Bracelet™, that ALWAYS sells at the
market price of gold, has an incredible 58.4% RATIO.
Many gold jewelry items have an extremely low ratio of precious metals
to price because of many different factors such as:
| • |
Multiple
layers of dealers, such as manufacturer, wholesalers,
dealers, retailers, and then finally YOU. (We ARE
the manufacturers and sell direct to YOU, without
middlemen). |
| • |
There are precious stones
in the jewelry, which can throw off any price ratio
consideration, unless the exact value of the stones
(and their weight) can be subtracted from the selling
price. |
| • |
High overhead of a retail
store. We have small town overhead, with National
distribution through our web site and central office
We have no retail store. |
| • |
High
concentration of labor compared to gold. (This
is not always bad,
as many times the artistry of the craftsman/artist
is definitely worth more than the ingredients, such
as the incredible Fabergé Egg). |
However, while we make Beautiful and Gracefully Classic Styles, they
are quite simple in design and help to keep any unnecessary labor
costs sharply reduced or eliminated and we sell direct to the consumer,
without middleman.
